The owner of a popular Co Carlow hotel that went into receivership appeared before Naas District Court on Friday.
Director of Step House Hotel, Cait Coady, Borris, Carlow, appeared before court today, charged with driving at a speed of 126 km/hr in a 100km/hr zone. She appeared in court with her husband, James Coady, who she said was the driver of the car, on July 1, 2015, at the N7, Kill.
Defence Solicitor, Tony Hanahoe, outlined to the court how the family hotel had gone into receivership at the time.
Evidence was given that the couple are now living in an apartment.
Mr Hanahoe said: "The only defence is that she did not get the ticket. The hotel went into receivership, the document was served to the receiver, but was not given to her. She has a lot of financial burdens on her at the moment."
Judge Desmond Zaidan struck out the charges.
Ms Coady's son Alan oversaw a multi-million euro redevelopment of the hotel eight years ago with his mother and her partner James Coady.
They built up the business’s reputation as being a ‘destination hotel’. He was named the best chef and the Cellar Restaurant was named best restaurant in last year’s Bridgestone Guide, while both he and the hotel won several other national and Leinster awards in the past few years.
Recently there was a protest outside the hotel when he was allegedly fired without due notice.
