A father of four young children appeared before Naas District Court after his home was searched by Gardaí.
Evidence was given how the Gardaí seized almost €2,000 worth of cash on February 11, 2016, at his Kildare home.
He faced obstruction charges.
The court heard how the unemployed man is now attending counselling services at Áras for drug treatment.
Evidence was heard how the accused has a number of previous convictions.
Inspector Mel Smyth requested that the €1,800 seized on the day by Gardaí is returned to the state.
Judge Desmond Zaidan ordered that the seized money is divided, with €900 going to Áras and €900 going to St Vincent de Paul.
The Judge sought a report for his suitability for community services.
