Naas Court today sets trial for young woman in crash that claimed lives of her 4 friends

A woman who was driving a car in Co Kildare that was involved in a crash claiming the lives of her four friends appeared before Naas Circuit Court today.

Dayna Kearney(22),  Crossneen, Co Carlow, appeared before the Circuit Court today, following an appearance last June.

January 30th, next,  is the date set for the trial with a jury being sworn in to hear it. The trial will last one week.

On January 6th 2015, Dayna Kearney's VW Polo collided with a van on the Athy Link Road at Burtown, Co Kildare.

Her friends Aisling Midleton, Niamh Doyle and Gemma Nolan, who were all 19 at the time, and 20-year-old Chermaine Carroll all died in the crash.

They were driving towards Athy to pick up Ashling Middleton’s laptop from her home. They had then intended to stay in Carlow overnight and had spent the day ice-skating.

Ms Kearney, who was 21, was badly injured and spent some time in hospital afterwards.

Ms Kearney is being charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of her four friends. She is also charged with driving a defective vehicle.
