Athy Traffic Corps pulled over a motorist driving a silver Audi A4 yesterday afternoon to find that the driver had in fact been disqualified from driving.

The motorist, who was already disqualified from driving, was stopped when gardaí were notified about a problem with the driver's licence by an Automatic Number Plate Recognition Alert that some Traffic Corps vehicles are equipped with.

Gardaí from Athy Traffic Corps arrested the driver at the scene.

In Ireland drivers can be disqualified due to penalty points which can stay on a driver's licence for up to three years, or other offences such as drink driving, drug driving, or dangerous driving. For more information visit www.rsa.ie

The motorist is expected to be before the court in a few weeks.
