The Club Players' Association have highlighted a case in Kildare where a member from a particular club got in contact with the association to voice his concern about player welfare in the county.
The person issuing the complaint, who signed off as Shane, raised the issue after his club had four games scheduled for the space of three days for certain underage teams, meaning that some players were facing the possibility of serious burnout.
The games in question were an U17 Summer League hurling final on the Friday night; an U17 football game at 2pm on Saturday; an U21 Hurling Championship game at 4pm on Saturday, and an U21 Football Championship game on the Sunday afternoon.

All games on that particular Saturday were called off due to the impact of Storm Brian, but the complainant was still keen to highlight the issue that the games were even fixed for those times at all. A number of clubs on that Saturday had players that may have been involved in the U21 Hurling Championship and the U17 league fixtures.
It should be noted that there is a significant age gap between the two teams that were to be involved on that Saturday and that such fixture clashes are a rare occurrence. The CCCC in Kildare would have no other opportunity to play these games earlier in the summer due to Minor Championship fixtures in both football and hurling, along with the senior grades in both codes.
