British discount retailer Dealz may be coming to the former Clelands supermarket premises in Kildare Town.
Dealz, which sells a wide range of products including groceries for €1.49 each, already has two successful stores in Newbridge and Naas.
Sources say that Dealz, which is owned by parent company Poundland, is currently expanding across the country and looking for suitable retail sites such as in the former Clelands premises on Claregate Street.
Family-owned grocery group Clelands moved out of its Kildare Town base in July after over two years serving its local customers.
Plans were lodged last month with Kildare Co Council to split the large former supermarket premises into two separate units.
The planning application was made in the name of owner Fintan Price.
