A Co Kildare student has been awarded a scholarship under the McDonald’s programme.

The McDonald’s Scholarship Programme is an initiative which celebrates the hard work and dedication of McDonald’s employees, who are completing college and further education studies. Alice Egan, who works at McDonald’s Naas, under Owner Operator Sean Quirke, is studying Environmental Health at Dublin institute of Technology.

Each winning employee receives €1,000 towards their education costs.

The awards were presented by the Minister for Employment and Small Business, Pat Breen, TD, at an event in Dublin’s Croke Park, earlier this month.  The 2016 Scholarship theme was ‘Making a difference in your McDonald’s Community.’

Speaking at the awards, Minister Breen, TD, commented: “McDonald’s Ireland is a significant employer in Ireland with 5,000 employees across its 90 restaurants in Ireland.  I welcome the company’s commitment to ongoing training and education, which is commendable.  There is no downside for companies investing in their staff and I would encourage other companies to follow this lead. I wish McDonalds and their employees continued success.”

Alison Hodgson, Director of HR at McDonald’s Ireland added: “McDonald’s is proud to offer jobs that fit around our employees.  These opportunities, along with industry training and qualifications, help  to take people further in their career with McDonald’s or beyond.  You don’t need a degree to work at McDonald’s but you can earn one while you work with us.”
