Kildare people can now study brewing and distilling on their doorstep.
The Institute of Technology Carlow has announced plans for the country’s first Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree programme in Brewing and Distilling.
The four-year course, which begins next September, follows two years of research and development by the Institute of Technology involving consultation with industry, representative organisations, national bodies and Government.
The craft beer industry has enjoyed a boom in recent years with the sector expected to see an increase in turnover of 50 per cent this year alone.
The number of breweries in Ireland has quadrupled since 2012.
The course will include work placement and access to brewing and distilling facilities.
