A man has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a man in his 20s in Waterford in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí were alerted by a member of the public to a male having been seriously injured on New Street following an altercation with another male at around 3.20am. On arrival at the scene Gardai discovered a 28-year-old male had been stabbed. He was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A 35-year-old male was arrested nearby and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Waterford Garda Station.
The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination and the offices of the State Pathologist have been notified. The Garda Technical Bureau is scheduled to attend the scene this morning.
