The Accident and Emergency Department at Naas General Hospital is currently closed following an unforeseen amount of visitors earlier today.
A statement released to KildareNow from a spokesperson for Naas General Hospital said that access to the A&E Department is 'temporarily restricted' in a bid to 'maintain patient safety'. The spokesperson for the hospital said that staff are working tirelessly to deal with the patients who are already being treated in the department and that the closure will be reviewed in the next hour.
If the department does not reopen to the public then, it will be reviewed on an hourly basis until it does eventually become accessible again. Visitor access has been restricted since at least 12.30pm this afternoon.
When asked if the A&E Department would be accessible to a member of the public in a life or death situation the spokesperson said that such a matter would also have to come under review.
There are currently 24 patients on trolleys in Naas General Hospital, second only to Beaumont Hospital in Leinster for the number of people on trolleys today.
