North Kildare TD Frank O Rourke has welcomed €70,000 funding approved for Naas Youth Project and Kildare Youth Information Centre, under the Youth Capital Funding Scheme.
In total, an allocation of up to €2.6m has been made available to the Department of Children for capital projects in the voluntary youth services for 2016/2017.
Mr O'Rourke said: "In the main, the new funding will be used to support small scale projects, including equipment replacement, refurbishments, health and safety fit outs and accessibility projects in local youth services and I welcome this investment in Naas youth services.
"It is important that resources are made available to organisations like Naas Youth Project and Kildare Youth Information Centre so that proper facilities are available for our young people."
The Youth Capital Funding Scheme provides grants for the up-grade or replacement of equipment or for the purchase of essential equipment to support the running of the project/organisation in the provision of quality services for young people.F
Under the Scheme, funding is also available for health and safety improvements to premises and/or upgrade of, refurbishment of premises or upgrades to enable access for young people with disabilities including young people with physical or sensory disabilities.
