A Co Kildare Garda is urging Junior Certs to take care tonight when out celebrating.

Garda Aubrey Sheridan, based in Celbridge, revealed that she regularly arrests teenagers for drinking alcohol.

Thousands of Junior Certs collected their results today.

Garda Sheridan, who is a mother to teenagers, is appealing for parents to know where their children are tonight.

She said: "Parents need to know where their children are how they are getting home tonight.  Children should all have their mobiles fully charged."

Garda Sheridan is urging teenagers not to drink from bottles when they do not know what the contents are.

"They could get Lucozade bottles filled with drink from a parents drink cabinet, this could be dangerous."

She warned that drink found in their possession will be confiscated, for all those under 18, and that if they are drunk, arrests will be made.

World Health Organisation findings reveal  that Ireland has the  second highest rate of binge drinking in the world

Findings from research on alcohol consumption in Ireland show that, among those who drink, the majority are doing so in a harmful manner, with younger drinkers most likely to do so.
