Kildare legend Doyle given new role to get more youngsters playing GAA

Former Kildare All-Star Johnny Doyle is set to spearhead the participation of children in GAA games across the county.

Doyle, who retired from inter-county football in 2014, appeared 154 times for his county over a 15-year period.

The new Community Development and Participation Officer position is co-funded by Kildare GAA, Kildare County Council and Leinster GAA.

Doyle’s tasks will including focusing on initiatives to support increased participation of children and young people with the GAA, particularly in towns.

He will also provide guidance to teachers and club coaches working in schools and assist with the running of GAA Cúl Camps, Easter and Halloween Camps and other events.

The Allenwood clubman was awarded Kildare Footballer of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

He won one Leinster Senior Football Championship medal with Kildare in 2000.

He was named as a 2010 Vodafone GAA football All Star for his performances with Kildare in the 2010 Championship.

In 2012 Doyle captained Kildare to the National Football League Division 2 title with a win over Tyrone.

Doyle also played in the 2013 International Rules Series which Ireland won.
