The Newbridge Town U13 Boys football team were crowned cup champions at a recent tournament in Dublin that featured some of the best young players from all over Ireland.
Over 250 footballers from 16 top teams around Ireland competed in Dublin’s A.U.L Complex over the weekend in this year’s Volkswagen Junior Masters football tournament.
While Newbridge were denied the top prize, the Volkswagen Junior Masters Champions Cup, they did win the second biggest prize on offer, which was the secondary cup as they defeated Greystones of Wicklow 3-0 in the final.
Belvedere FC defeat last year’s champions Crumlin United 1-0 in the Volkswagen Junior Masters Cup final, while Aisling Annacotty and Drogheda Marsh Crescent won the third and fourth tier competitions last weekend.
Now in its third year, the under 13 boy’s tournament has grown significantly in terms of its recognition and importance amongst the Irish grassroots soccer community. The stakes were high with the winning team, Belvedere FC benefitting with a €2,000 grant from Volkswagen for their club, while all competing teams received an Umbro team kit for the competition.
