The devastated mother of a young Sallins biker who tragically died at her side on a Co Kildare road just weeks before Christmas day is appealing for people to attend a fundraiser in her son's memory this Sunday.
25- year-old Sallins man, Shane McCormac, was driving his mother's bike, a birthday gift he had given her on December 8 . His mother, Grace, was behind him when tragedy struck.
There was a collision between Shane's bike and a van on the Nurney to Kildare Town road close to Walterstown Cross.
This Sunday, outside Supervalu Sallins, it is anticipated that over 200 bikes will gather in a memorial run, in aid of Blood Bikes East, departing from Sallins at 10.30am to Trim.
Mrs Byrne McCormac said : "All money is going to the Blood Bikes East as Shane was a blood donor and and organ donor but the manner in which he died he couldn't fulfil his last wish. The Blood Bikes is something that he was passionate about."
Blood Bikes East provides an emergency medical transport service between the hospitals in Dublin and the Greater Leinster area.
It is all done by volunteers in their free time for no financial reward and completely free of charge to all contracted hospitals.
Shane is survived by his mother Grace father Terry, brother Tommy and his many friends, relations and work mates.
35- year-old Maxim Grosu of Ruanbeg Manor, Kildare, is currently on bail, facing charges in relation to the death of Shane. Mr Grosu is facing charges of dangerous driving, driving without a driving licence and not having insurance.
