Teenagers from the Cross and Passion College in Kilcullen have brought proposals to the Dáil to see if they can replace all public bins with ecofriendly recycling units that will help the environment.
Two junior certificate students from the school brought the motion forward to TDs as they seek to have the general waste bins replaced with more environmentally friendly options such as a brown bin that can be used for food disposal.
"We want people and the authorities to take action now," said 14-year-old student Jane O'Toole. It's not the first time that Jane and her classmate Evie Ronayne have been involved in helping out the environment, as the pair were chosen to travel to Malawi to witness the impact of climate change last year.
The two girls also raised a phenomenal €2,400 for Concern's 24-hour fast fundraiser last year.
