Gardaí have arrested a man and recovered an imitation firearm along with a sum of money following an armed robbery in Athy yesterday evening.
At approximately 4pm a male armed with a hand gun entered a shop in the Dunbrin area of Athy and threatened staff before leaving the scene with a sum of cash. No one was injured during the incident.
During a follow up operation involving Gardaí from Athy, other local Units and assistance from the Garda Air Support Unit a 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Newbridge Garda Station.
An imitation firearm and a sum of money have also been recovered by investigating Gardaí.
