Gardai in Co Kildare have warned that a number of attempts have been made to scam both individuals and businesses by using what appear to be familiar email addresses of friends or customers.
The scammers are usually looking for money transfers.
Emails are received by the target and the email appears to be correct in that it has the correct name and domain name (e.g. joeblogs@eircom.net etc).
However, when the target goes to reply, the fraudulent email address will appear and will receive the reply if it is sent.
Be careful when receiving requests to transfer money and never disclose details or passwords of bank accounts.
