Strike action that was due to be undertaken by paramedics has been cancelled following talks at the Workplace Relations Commission.
Members of the National Ambulance Service were planning to carry out industrial action next Wednesday due to pay conditions that had been recommended by the Labour Court but SIPTU claimed that those recommendations were not implemented by the HSE.
It has now been agreed that there will be 150 extra emergency technician posts created in the next 24 months, while 461 paramedics will also be given jobs over the next five years. The National Ambulance Service will also be able to recruit new staff from abroad as part of the deal.
The news of the cancellation of the strike will come as a relief to hospitals all over the country after members of the National Ambulance Service overwhelmingly voted in favour of a strike last month.
