Two members of the Garda Síochana in Dublin were hospitalised last night following an attack by a gang of youths in Dublin's north-inner city.

Both uniformed Gardaí were doing a routine foot patrol in the Manor Street area of Stoneybatter around midnight when they came across the group of youths and were subsequently assaulted.

It has since been confirmed that it was a female and male garda that suffered injury, and they were both working out of the Bridewell Garda Station that is located just behind the Four Courts in the city centre. They were brought to the Mater Hospital and treated for head and facial injuries but have been discharged since.

One youth was arrested and brought to Bridewell Garda Station where he is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
