Housing investment in Kildare has meant that the number of houses being built is behind only two other counties in the country, Cork and Dublin, as people continue to emigrate towards the county.
A total of 5,125 new homes were built nationally in the first six months of this year, which is the highest number to be completed since 2011. The Housing Agency still says that around 21,000 units need to be built every year to solve the accommodation crisis throughout the country.
In Kildare there were a total of 358 new units completed in the first six months of 2016, which is behind only Fingal(827), Cork(624) and Dublin City(500). The Greater Dublin Area, which includes Kildare, Wicklow and Meath has seen the completion of 2,830 units altogether.
Nationally there was a rise of 18 per cent compared to the same period in 2015, with 41 per cent of the new units described as one-off homes, 42.4 per cent were homes in estates and 16.6 per cent were apartments.
