Leinster GAA are not keeping their heads in the sand according to Chairman John Horan when it comes to marketing the provinical championship in this part of the country, and new measures are being taken to buck the constant flow of easy Dublin victories in the province.
The Dubs have won 11 of the last 12 Leinster Championships, but in recent years their dominance has become even more stark, with no team coming within seven points of the Dubs in the last four seasons. The level of dominance that they have enjoyed is mainly due to talent, but the resources the Sky Blues have and the money they are able to pump into their teams elevates them to a different level altogether.
The Leinster Council today announced that €1.5 million will be pumped into coaching development in Kildare, Meath, Wicklow and Louth over the next three years, and it is very much an attempt to close the gap between Dublin and the rest of the province.
"We're not going around with our heads in the sand. We need a marketable product to keep sponsors going and we need a marketable product to get supporters to come.
"You can't have those big gaps that exist between Dublin and the rest. This is an attempt to address that," said Horan.
On the back of that news it has been announced that the Leinster Council are looking for someone to fill the role of Games Promotion Officer in Kildare, while they are seeking to fill similar vacancies in Meath, Wicklow and Louth.
The ideal candidate must be used to working in the GAA or a similar sporting organisation, while also possessing a foundation level GAA coaching qualification. Applications for the role can be made here.
