The Olympics is drawing ever closer, and as the Irish Olympic boxing team jetted off to Rio De Janeiro on Tuesday afternoon, the build-up really began to kick into gear.
RTÉ announced some of their team that will be covering the Olympics this summer, and among them is Athy boxer Eric Donovan. The Kildare native will be on co-commentary duty with the legendary Jimmy Magee, who will be covering his 13th consecutive Olympic Games.
Donovan recently stepped into the professional game, winning his first pro fight at the end of June, and he should provide some excellent viewpoints on the action in Brazil. It will be interesting for the former European bronze medalist, as fellow Athy boxer David Oliver Joyce is competing in his first Olympic Games, and Donovan will be covering his fights for the state broadcaster.
Bernard Dunne, Michael Carruth, Mick Dowling, and Kelly Harrington will be providing anlaysis from the RTÉ studios throughout the games, with the boxing getting underway on August 6.
