Housing Minister Simon Coveney last night met with bin companies to discuss the increased charges being introduced by companies.
The Fine Gael TD vowed to prevent bin companies from fleecing their customers earlier this week, after it emerged that the new pay-by-weight scheme could see people facing increases of up to 83% on having their bins collected. Many companies are being accused of using the the scheme as a way of implementing unsustainable pricing, but Coveney has been quick to try and prevent such a measure.
Coveney and TD Sean Kyne met with representatives from Bord Na Mona, City Bin, Clean Ireland, Greenstar,Greyhound, Mulleady's Waste, Thornton's and Panda Waste yesterday evening to see if a resolution to the problem could be found.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Coveney said, “It was a frank and productive meeting with the waste industry this evening. On the basis of what was discussed, I will bring forward a proposal early next week and before the debates in the Oireachtas.
