The Newbridge Busk and Food Festival is getting underway shortly, and it promises to be an event that will cater for all tastes.

The streets will be lined with activities and entertainent for all ages from 12 noon onwards, while there will also be a large variety of food stalls that will convey the best local produce that Kildare has to offer. There will even be a mini food village on George's Street in the town.

Music will begin to fill the streets from 1.30pm onwards, as buskers dot themselves all over the town to provide acoustic entertainment for the afternoon. There are lots of prizes on offer to both food producers and buskers, with Dubai Duty Free sponsoring the €3,000 prize fund. The festival marks the 150th anniversary of the Irish Derby, which is sponsored by Dubai Duty Free, and that takes place next week in the Curragh.

Fiona McLoughlin Healy, Chair of the Newbridge Busk and Food Committee said, “Whether you’re a solo singer, a blue-grass band or musical society, all are welcome to enter the competition. Come along and join in the fun, music, song and watch the sing-off for the final.”
