Kildare Co Council said it is not planning any traffic calming measures on a route in Maynooth which a councillor described as a 'rat-run'.

Councillor John McGinley asked that the Council put in place "appropriate traffic management measures" to prevent cars from using the Moyglare Hall through road as a “rat run” to new schools in the area.

However the Council responded that Moyglare Hall Road is designed to best practice in its current state.

Officials said: "The Road Design Section advises that the Moyglare Hall Road is designed to the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS) specification and that no additional traffic calming measures are required.

"Permeability to the new school is part of the planning condition of the development."
