Hoped issued a strenuous warning last night on social media:
"WE just got notification from a resident here in Newbridge in the Moorefield Park area, that a woman in her 30s knocked at her door last Saturday evening around 6:30 pm looking for sponsorship for our Hoped Charity!" said a spokesperson for the organisation
"This home owner was vigilant enough to know that it was not legitimate, as the girl had an A4 sheet in her hand for names etc. - if anyone else in the area was approached on that evening, could you please PM ourFacebook page, or ring the office, or íGardai to let them know.
"It in NOT OUR POLICY to do house calls seeking money for any sponsorship or events, or donations. ANY/ALL of our events are run by our own registered Committee members, Garda vetted volunteers, who visibly wear our logo t-shirt, with ID identity badges, together with necessary Garda permits etc, if and when needed".
The spokesperson added "It sickens me to the core, to think anyone would take this route to con good people out of money, and to pretend it was going to our services. PLEASE SHARE and BEWARE".
This was NOT a Hoped approved collection. Hoped have offices located at 2 Henry St, Piercetown, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, W12 AX29.
