Siobhan is first past the finish line - but charities are the big winner in Mini Marathon

The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon was won by Siobhan O’Doherty from Tipperary in a time of 34.30.

Natasha Adams from Donegal was second across the finish line in 34.33 and Sarah Mulligan secured third place in 35.28. Sinead Kane won the Visually Impaired Category in a time of 71.00.

Hundreds of women from Co Kildare took part in the annual event.

Siobhan was congratulated by her mum Agnes after the race (pictured).

Women’s Mini Marathon CEO Kathy Endersen said: “Today has been a fantastic day for women and charities from all over Ireland.

“It’s very uplifting to see so many women walking, jogging and running together through the streets of Dublin today. We congratulate the winner Siobhan O’Doherty and runners up Natasha Adams and Sarah Mulligan who ran a great race.

The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is the biggest all-women’s event of its kind in the world.

The first Women’s Mini Marathon began in Dublin in 1983 with 9,000 entrants,and the event currently hosts just under 35,000 women.

Women from across the 32 counties of Ireland, U.K. and Europe take part each year to raise vital funds for their chosen charities and causes.

Meanwhile Philip Harty won the Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon with Nollaigh O’Neill from Leevale the first woman to cross the line.
