Local Fianna Fail TD, Frank O’Rourke, has welcomed confirmation from the department that the Flood Alleviation Detailed study at Hazelhatch will be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2019.

Deputy O’Rourke stated this study which is to be carried out in the general Hazelhatch area is to access any other causes of Flooding in the area.

He said: "Last year, I secured funding from the Office of Public Works and Minister Kevin Boxer Moran to carry out flood alleviation works at Hazelhatch in Celbridge. These works are now completed, which included installing new grids at the culverts in Primrose Gate housing estate. These works were identified in November 2017 after the OPW and KCC visited this location at my request due to the flooding on that occasion."

“I have again met with the management of Kildare County Council and the Minister for the OPW to press to have a detailed complete study carried out to assess any other potential issues which may lead to flooding in the area. The Minister gave me a commitment that the OPW would work with and support Kildare County Council on this study. The Council have now agreed the scope of works with the OPW which is going to tender for a consultant to be apportioned and the detailed study will be completed by the end of quarter two in 2019 at the latest. This is very positive news for Celbridge GAA, Tennis Club, St.Patricks N.S, the residents of Primrose Gate and to allow future development to be considered near Hazelhatch Train Station.’

“The 11m Lower Morrell Flood Relief Scheme, approved by An Bord Pleanala, is now held up due to a judicial review. This is an important flood relief scheme for the areas from Straffan to Killeenmore to Kill, and works on the scheme was due to commence recently. I hope the legal issues can be resolved and that we get movement on this scheme as well,"concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
