Naas Gardaí and Kildare County Council are now investigating illegal dumping of rubbish in Kilcullen after one tonne of domestic and commercial waste was found.
It is reported that men dressed in Kildare County Council jackets, purporting to be working for the council, were seen in a truck with a Northern Ireland registration plate in the Kilcullen area, before Christmas, around the time that one tonne of illegal waste was found.
Kildare County Council have cleaned up the one tonne of waste found in Kilcullen.
Meanwhile, rising levels of dumping around Co Kildare along with high amounts of litter blackspots is a cause of concern.
Fine Gael Cllr Brendan Weld says that he is encountering all sorts of illegal dumping around North Kildare. There are reports of significant levels of fridges and beds being found dumped.
He said: “Only a few days ago, I came across four to five bags of rubbish dumped on the side of the Clane to Kilcock Road. I took them away with me.”
He says that there are reports of pieces of scrap cars being dumped in ditches around Rathcoffey.
Cllr Weld says that an attitude towards dumping needs to be tackled.
He said:”I think that there is an attitude of once you get rid of it, it is not my problem.”
Cllr Weld is urging people to consider recycling, pointing out that many of the dumped items such as fridges and mattresses suitable for recycling.
Earlier this month, illegal dumping was spotted at Barrett Park in Monasterevin when a mattress, bed board and sacks of domestic rubbish were thrown outside an official Christmas Tree recycling site organised by Kildare Co Council.
Also motorists using the nearby R445 route between Monasterevin and Kildare Town saw an old ironing board carelessly thrown by the side of the road
This route also saw paper wrapping and cardboard boxes from Christmas presents dumped in a gateway into a field in the days after Christmas.
Also there are ongoing reports of rubbish being dumped around Kildare town.
The Irish Farmers Association (IFA) has called for more severe sanctions on serial dumpers who have no regard for the rural countryside.
