Students from Cross and Passion College in Kilcullen win prestigious award at BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2019

Two first year students from Cross and Passion College in Kilcullen have won the Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences Junior Category at the 55th annual BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition which took place last week.

Students Hugo Langan and Matthew English impressed the judges at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2019 with their project which focused on studying algae as a possible fuel source with other fuel sources.

Speaking to KildareNow this week, Principal Catherine Moynihan of Cross and Passion College in Kilcullen said: “We are very proud of our 1st year students Hugo Langan and Matthew English who represented the Cross and Passion College at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition at the RDS last week. Hugo and Matthew were awarded 1st place in the chemical, physical and mathematical sciences-junior category.”

Ms. Moynihan said: “This is a wonderful achievement indeed. Congratulations are also due to the teacher mentors, Ms. Eleanor Higgins and Ms. Aishling Doyle. The boys’ win is shared and celebrated in the year group and throughout the school. Well done to all.”

There were eight schools from Co Kildare participating in the annual competition with 11 projects submitted, and the overall winner of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2019 was Adam Kelly from Skerries Community College in Dublin who won with his project on quantum circuits.
