Heavy rain and thundery downpours expected tonight for Co Kildare

It's set to be a cold night tonight with continued showers and a risk of hail and thunder for Co Kildare.

According to Met Eireann, there will be 'further scattered showers tonight, some heavy with hail and thunder. There is the risk of the showers falling as sleet or wet snow on mountains towards dawn.'

Minimum temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees. Fresh easterly winds will decrease moderate with some frost possible in sheltered areas inland.

Tomorrow, Wednesday will be a cold day with scattered showers, some heavy, with a risk of hail and thunder. Highest temperatures of just 5 to 7 degrees in moderate easterly winds.

Wednesday night: Showers will become generally restricted to coastal counties of the east and south on Wednesday night with good dry, clear spells developing elsewhere. A cold and frosty night with minimum temperatures of -2 to +4 degrees in moderate east or southeast breezes.

Thursday: Current indications suggest Thursday will bring a good deal of dry and bright weather across the country with good sunny spells. However, there will be the continued risk of some showers, especially in southern and eastern coastal counties. Highest temperatures will range 5 to 9 degrees in moderate easterly winds. Further showers in coastal areas overnight and there is the threat of a period of more prolonged rain near the south coast.

Friday: It is expected to be mostly cloudy across the southern half of Ireland on Friday with outbreaks of rain affecting some southern coastal counties. A good deal of dry and bright weather elsewhere but with a few showers, especially across parts of east Ulster. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate easterly winds. Frost in sheltered spots overnight.
