It's set to be a mostly wet day ahead with frequent showers for Co Kildare with a risk of hail and thunder later, while weather experts are also warning that there is a risk of showers falling as 'sleet or snow' on mountains tonight.
Occasional sunny spells today but it looks set to be mostly cloudy and with fairly frequent showers. Some of the showers will be heavy and prolonged with the risk of hail and thunder later.
Top temperatures will range 6 to 8 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty east to northeast winds.
According to national forecaster Met Eireann there will be further showers overnight, some heavy with hail and thunder possible. There is the risk of the showers falling as sleet or snow on mountains towards dawn. Minimum temperatures will range zero to plus 4 degrees in fresh and gusty northeasterly winds.
According to Prof Peter O'Donnell of Irish Weather Online, tonight's forecast could include 'outbreaks of sleety light rain with wet snow possible on higher slopes above 300 metres elevation, cold, lows 2 to 4 C. Winds east to southeast 40 to 60 km/hr.'
WEDNESDAY ... Rain becoming more extensive, still expected to be rather light (5 to 10 mm amounts) and not as windy by afternoon in the south at least, as low pressure tracks close to the south coast, but gusty east winds will continue further north, with lows about 3 C and highs 5 to 8 C.
THURSDAY ... Variable cloud, showers more isolated although some outbreaks of light rain near southwest coast, lows about 5 C and highs about 9 C. Southeast winds 40 to 60 km/hr.
FRIDAY ... Rain in the southwest, isolated showers elsewhere, southeast winds 50 to 70 km/hr. Lows 2 to 5 C and highs about 9 C.
Feeling cold today with a brisk east or northeast wind. There will be scattered showers about, these frequent across Leinster & east Munster but more isolated elsewhere. The best of any sunny breaks will be found in the west & northwest. Top temperatures will range 6 to 8 degrees pic.twitter.com/9CKYWrwPiz
