Kildare North Labour General Election Candidate Emmet Stagg has called on the National Transport Authority to ensure that all of the Maynooth Rail Services from Maynooth to the City Centre also go to Pearse Street.

Mr  Stagg stated that when Timetable changes were brought in by Iarnrod Eireann last September a substantial number of trains from Maynooth, which previously served both Connolly and Pearse Street, were changed with the service terminating at Connolly, necessitating a change at Connolly to board a DART to Pearse Street.

Of the 36 Train Services daily from Maynooth to the City Centre on weekdays, 16 cover both Connolly Station and Pearse Street whilst on the other 20 services commuters have the inconvenience of having to change to a DART at Connolly to get to Pearse Street.

All services on Saturdays and Sundays require a change at Connolly if you want to go to Pearse Street. Similarly the New additional off peak services which are being introduced on December 9th all require a change at Connolly.

Mr. Stagg stated that the transfers are a significant inconvenience for commuters wishing to access the South City Centre by Rail and add considerably to travel times.

He pointed out that if the capacity exists for peak time services to Pearse Street one would have thought that the capacity to continue onto Pearse Street exists for off peak and weekends also.

He stated that he had made the case to the NTA to restore service from Maynooth to Pearse Street and he awaited their response.
