A North Kildare TD has welcomed the confirmation from the National Transport Authority (NTA) that the DART network will be extended to Maynooth and Celbridge giving an improved level of service for Rail commuters.
Deputy Frank O'Rourke said:“I am delighted that we have now received confirmation from the NTA that the DART services will be in place for rail commuters using Kildare and Maynooth lines.”
He said:“As I have said before, there is little room for additional rail passengers to travel at peak times on services from Sallins / Hazelhatch or Maynooth / Leixlip unless we invest in extra carriages. There has been a surge in demand which has led to overcrowding on busy morning and evening commuter routes. The confirmation that the DART will be extended to North Kildare will be give hope to all that I am making progress.”.
Deputy O'Rourke said:“I have called on Irish Rail and the NTA to look at alternatives to increase the capacity of the rail service in the meantime. I called for the NTA to consider leasing second hand rail carriages and I am delighted that I now have confirmation from the NTA that they will lease carriages which will come into service in 2020.”
He said:“The DART coming to Maynooth and Celbridge, a proposal which has been on successive Government’s agenda, now at last, seems to have a concrete timeline and will happen in 2022."
