Kildare County council is being called upon to look at procuring biodegradable dog litter bags to be used in the Naas Municipal District.
The motion proposed by Fianna Fail Councillor Carmel Kelly will be discussed at the Naas MD meeting on Tuesday 20 November.
In recent months, dog owners have complained of a shortage of doggie ‘poop bags’ for Naas and last month it emerged that problems arose when the tax clearance of the company which supplies the bags had expired and had to be renewed in order for the Council to be able to place an order.
According to Kildare County Council, dog fouling has become 'more of an issue in the last few years, for the public in general, as well as residents associations, Tidy Towns and other community groups.'
To assist in this, the council has identified a number of areas in each of the municipal districts where many people walk their dogs.
These areas will have a temporary audio warning device installed to remind dog owners of their responsibilities, and some additional signage with the “Any Bag Any Bin” message will also be installed.
The motion calling for Kildare County Council to consider implementing biodegradable dog litter bags to be used in the Naas Municipal District will be tabled by Cllr Carmel Kelly at the monthly meeting on Tuesday, 20 November.
