Naas Court hears teenager was driving at a speed of 181 km per hour on a 120km zone

A teenager who was driving at a speed of 181km per hour in a 12okm zone appeared before Naas District Court.

He was charged with dangerous driving.

Garda Ronan Mannion said that on the day, road conditions were dry.

Defence Solicitor, Timmy Kennelly told the court how the accused has 12 lessons done.

Evidence was heard in the court how he had borrowed a Lexus from his brother on the day.

Defence told the court on Thursday how the accused was driving on a Sunday morning when traffic was quiet on the M9.

Mr Kennelly said: "He is starting a job on Monday.  He needs the car to start the job. If he banned he will not be able to get the job."

The court heard how he earns €360 per week.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said: "He is barely out of nappies and he is in nappies again."

Garda Mannion said that he had certain sympathies for the accused whose girlfriend had lost a baby at the time.

Mr Kennelly said: "He is genuinely remorseful."

Judge Zaidan said: "I will convict you for careless driving. You deserve to go to jail for this. I am giving you a chance."
