Kildare County Council will install new traffic signs and a Garda speed van will be put in place in Sallins following a campaign to make the village safer for pedestrians.
There have been two serious collisions in Sallins in the past year which has led to calls for stricter road safety measures to be introduced.
A Garda speed van will be deployed outside the Castlefen estate where a teenage male was fatally injured last year, while a new speed sign will be erected on the road coming into Sallins from the Clane direction.
The news was confirmed by Kildare TD James Lawless who met with Peter Carey,
County Manager in Kildare County Council, along with his executive team, to raise the issues arising from a public meeting in the village. That was followed by a meeting on Friday with Niall Morrissey, Director of Services for Roads and Transportation and Naas District Manager Peter Minnock.
“The outcome of those meetings is that Kildare County Council at the highest level understand the issues of road safety in Sallins (and Kill) and will explore measures to achieve this in a shorter timescale that might have previously been the case,” stated Deputy Lawless.
“Both long term and short term plans are in progress for Sallins: In the medium to long term a significant number of public realm improvements will be put in place after the bypass which will transform the look and feel of Sallins village. However, it is essential we also accelerate progress in the short term. The council are now considering measures specific to road safety elements to be put in place sooner.”
