A Celbridge playground is still closed after €15,000 worth of damage was caused on Halloween night.
Locals said it was the third time in four years that there has been a fire in the Aghards Playground.
The issue was raised at by Cllr Ide Cussen at the recent Municipal District meeting.
Kildare Co Council gave an update on the incident at the meeting:
"Play equipment consisting of a fire engine, spinning bowl, seesaw and safety surfacing were maliciously set on fire and destroyed.
"Damage was also caused to a gate at the rear of the playground.
"The estimated cost of repairing the damage is €15,000.
"Prior to Halloween night bonfire material was removed from the open space.
"After receiving reports of the damage, the playground was closed and currently remains closed until the repairs are completed and the area is made safe.
"Weather conditions have delayed repair work.
"The matter was reported to an Garda Síochaná.
"Regarding the upgrade of the playground it is hoped to prepare a design for the open space to improve the appearance and use of the space.
"This would include considering an upgrade of the playground.
Kildare County Council doesn't own all the open space and legal title to this area is being explored.
Monread Park, Naas
Kildare County Council had placed security guards at Monread Park on Halloween week, according to Naas Tidy Towns.
This move was to protect the area from any anti-social activity, particularly after dark.
Naas Gardai were also patrolling the area,
Monread District Park was opened in June 2001 and is a valuable community resource for the large surrounding population.
There has been a number of incidences of vandalism in the past with fires being lit and graffiti being sprayed on property.
