Man dies in gangland shooting in Kildare estate

A man has died following a suspected feud-related shooting in Leixlip, Co Kildare.

 

The shooting happened in the Glen Easton Way estate at around 9.15pm.

 

 

It is understood that the victim was shot in the head and the gunman escaped in a white-coloured car.

The victim is believed to have been related to Gerry Hutch, the man known as 'The Monk', according to RTE.

The scene of the shooting has been preserved by Gardaí.

A Garda helicopter is in the area searching for suspects.

A white van had been reported acting suspiciously in the area previously by the Glen Easton Residents Association Facebook Page. 

A Garda Press Office statement released at 10.42pm said:

"Gardaí are investigating a fatal shooting in Leixlip, Co. Kildare.
"Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of an incident outside a house at Glen Easton Way, Leixlip, Co. Kildare, following a report of a shooting at about 9.15pm.
"A man in his 40s was treated at the scene for serious injuries but was later pronounced dead.
"The scene is sealed off pending the arrival of Garda Crime Scene Examiners and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
"Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Glen Easton Estate this evening between 8.30pm and 9.30pm to contact them at Leixlip Garda Station on 01 666 7800.
