There was notable success on the waters for young Patrician Secondary School student Adam Walsh last weekend when he claimed the individual title in the mixed fleet series at the All-Ireland Interschools Sailing competition at the Sutton Dinghy Club.

Adam, who is a first year student at the Newbridge school, competed alongside 58 other sailors in his Laser 4.7 boat, but it came down to the wire as he pipped the initial leader, Daniel Hopkins, in the final round.

With one point separating the pair going into the final round, boat handling and maximising boat speed against the PY clock was going to be the key. In the end Adam prevailed and did enough to pip last years winner.

It was a notable achievement for the 13-year-old from Halverstown, Caragh, as he was competing against boys much older than him, and the second placed Hopkins is a fifth year student.

A name worth keeping an eye on for sure...
