A filly of the legendary Galileo sold for an incredible €3.2 million at the Goffs sales in Kildare yesterday in one of the most eye-catching purchases of a racehorse this year.
The massive sum is the highest figure paid for a yearling throughout the world this year, and it is a huge income for the Ballylinch Stud in Kilkenny who completed the sale.
The purchase was bought by Bahrain-based businessman Amer Abdulaziz who runs Phoenix Thoroughbreds, a racehorse investment fund that are looking to make waves in the industry.
"With a filly like that you assume she will go and win top races,” Mr Abdulaziz is quoted as saying in the Irish Independent.
"You won't have anything like her in the market for the next 10 or 15 years.
"It was definitely love at first sight, I saw her this morning for the first time and she walked like a beautiful lady, you know, and that is how it should be with these top fillies." Galileo is based at the Coolmore Stud in Tipperary, and his offspring regularly fetches eye-watering sums when they go to sales each year, but this is certainly one of the most notable sales ever.
