The Kildare Senior Hurling Championship final will be pushed back by six days to prevent a clash for members of the Celbridge club who play both hurling and football.

The hurling final between Celbridge and reigning champions Ardclough was due to be played on Sunday October 7, but KildareNow understands that the game will now be played on Saturday October 13. The Celbridge footballers are due to play their county semi-final against Athy next weekend, with the date for that game yet to be finalised.

Fergal Conway and Liam O’Flynn are two players who featured in last weekend's Senior Hurling Championship semi-final win over Confey and the Senior Football Championship quarter-final win over Carbury on Saturday.

The Celbridge GAA club contacted the county board earlier this week to request a change in the event that they defeated Carbury in the Senior Football Championship quarter-final, which they did on Saturday evening.

The request was to avoid having dual stars tog out in two major championship games just 24 hours apart.

It means that it will be a busy weekend on October 13/14, with the Intermediate Football Championship final set to be played on the Sunday.
