A North Kildare TD has confirmed that Kildare County  Council  is submitting a proposal to seek funding for a second crossing over the river Liffey in Celbridge. The application will be submitted before 27th of September next to the urban regeneration and development fund.

Deputy Frank O'Rourke said:“The Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (LIHAF), Round 1, allocated €14million last year for the construction of the Maynooth Ring Road linking the Dublin Road to the Celbridge road. Funding was also allocated to progress the Naas Ring Road.”

He said:“Now, a second round of funding is being made available to provide for critical pieces of Infrastructure. Kildare Co Co must now provide a comprehensive application to enable funding to be provided for projects like a second bridge in Celbridge. This application for funding which I fully support will be to progress and deliver on the next phase for a second bridge for Celbridge.”

Deputy O'Rourke said: “Since I got elected, I have made repeated representations, and met the relevant Minister, to secure funding for the construction a number of ring roads, including the construction of the Maynooth Ring Road, Clane Ring Road and a Second Bridge for Celbridge. The second bridge for Celbridge is firmly on the agenda now and is progressing.”

“He said: We must learn from the mistakes of the past. We must provide adequate infrastructure in line with development, rather than trying to retrofit the infrastructure subsequent to the development, as happened in the past. A second bridge in Celbridge in long overdue and we must provide for it now.”

Deputy O'Rourke said:“I will continue to engage with the Minister and Kildare Co Co and I will vigorously support Kildare’s application for funding for the next phase in the delivery of a second bridge in Celbridge.”
