Kilcock 2-22

Sallins 1-11

Pittman Traffic & Safety IFC preliminary quarter-final

By Robert Cribbin

Kilcock will play Two Mile House in the last eight of the Intermediate Championship after they proved way too strong for Sallins.

Darren Acton was the star turn in kicking 1-8 but with David Duke, Daragh McArdle and Daniel Courtney also impressing the formidable Kilcock attack had way too much.

Sallins were always chasing as Acton found the net in the second minute and it was always uphill from there with just a few fleeting Conor Herbert frees keeping them somewhat in touch.

The Kilcock victory sets up what should be an intriguing Quarter-Final tie as the 2017 County finalists seem to be hitting form at the right time.

Kilcock made a blistering start to the game and had the ball in the net within two minutes as Cormac Divilly burst forward and unleashed a shot off the crossbar but Darren Acton was quickest to the rebound to palm home.

Ian Murphy replied with a lovely point from distance but Kilcock soon took complete control.

Sallins went scoreless for fifteen minutes while Declan Gibbons side scored eight points without reply in that period.

Darren Acton was brilliant for Kilcock and he scored two quickfire points before Cian Duke added a free.

Acton who was deployed at full forward soon scored two further efforts with Fearghal O’Brien and David Duke also on target to leave Kilcock 1-8 to 0-1 to the good.

It was a lead that could have been even bigger as David Duke and Daragh McArdle also had shots saved.

Sallins eventually stemmed the tide with a free from Conor Herbert and a point from play by Paul Moynihan.

Kilcock kicked on again though with a pair of scores from Daniel Courtney being added to by efforts courtesy of Daragh McArdle and David Duke to go 1-12 to 0-3 clear.

To their credit Sallins kept on battling and got 1-2 without reply before the break with two Herbert frees following up a Ruairi O’Domhnaill goal.

McArdle kicked the last point of the half for Kilcock as they went in with an eight point lead.

The flow of the second period continued at the same pace with David Duke kicking the opening point of the half.

The sides then shared scores over the course of the following minutes with Acton and Duke maintaining Kilcock’s lead with the reply coming in the shape of two brilliantly taken Herbert frees as well as a score from play by Paul Moynihan.

Herbert was one of Sallins’s shining lights and he kicked two further frees to get his team back within six points halfway through the half.

Kilcock controlled the rest of the contest though and they cruised home kicking a further 1-6 with Acton continuing to cause problems in adding a brace while David Courtney and David Duke also scored.

Substitutes Shane O’Rourke and Luke Sheridan maintained the onslaught with O’Rourke also adding a late goal.

Fergal Swan finished the scoring with a late Sallins point but Kilcock were well clear at that stage as they impressively sealed their place in the last eight with a 14-point win.
