A Sallins man caught with €10 worth of cannabis herb appealed for the court to strike out the charges with fears for his employment at Dublin Airport.

The 36-year-old man was charged with the unlawful possession of cannabis at Sallins, on July 20, 2017.

Sgt Brian Jacob told the court how the man's house was searched and 'small traces' of cannabis were found.

Sarah Connolly BL, said that the accused is seeking to get a job at Dublin Airport and would have to undergo extensive vetting.

Defence said that the Probation Act Section 1(1) would not be sufficient, she asked that the charge was struck out.

She said: "I am asking you to go one step further, there can't be any sniff of drugs on the record. I am asking you to strike it out."

Ms Connolly said that the accused had €500 and was willing to pay that as a donation in order to avoid a conviction.

Judge Desmond Zaidan refused to strike it out, the man was  convicted and fined  €300, with two months to pay.
